Longhorn Songscape
Created and led by songwriter and University of Texas alum Darden Smith, Longhorn Songscape is a one-of-a-kind musical project that captures the hearts and imaginations of students and also chronicles life at UT through their eyes. Each year, the program partners with a different student community to co-write and record a collection of original songs rooted in their personal experiences at UT Austin.
The songs are professionally produced and recorded with student musicians, and the full creative journey is documented by students from journalism, photography, and media programs. The collection will be permanently archived at UT Austin.
“At the intersection of academic work and mental well-being, Longhorn Songscape helps students access their emotions and develop a greater sense of self, confidence, and belonging. This enhances UT’s mission of developing individuals who are more insightful, balanced, and better prepared for their lives after they leave college.
Longhorn Songscape is supported with contributions from the public.
